Gorillaz new music video absolutely nails our materialistic society

Virtual superband Gorillaz have released a new album, Humanz. The first track off the album is ‘Hallelujah Money’ featuring Benjamin Clementine, it is an eery parody of our materialistic society. Watch the video below, what words would you use to describe how it made you feel? How do the visuals add meaning to the song?

What do lyrics like “Hallelujah Money” and “The best way to protect our freedom is by building walls” say about the status quo?

Can you think of other statements that ironically summarise problematic elements of our current society?

Benjamin Clementine is the voice of the status quo, summarising current values for wealth and espoused by Trump and a capitalist society.
